the act.of route: world cities in motion

THIS IS

PERSON. PLACE. THING. my name is Yuki Bowman (yukibowman@berkeley.edu), and on behalf of the University of California's graduate department of Architecture, i am a very grateful & lucky recipient of a 2007 John K. Branner traveling fellowship. i will be spending the next ten months traveling the global network of 'world cities' to examine the mobility systems that make them work (nor not, as it may be). rather than conceiving of this journey as a series of sites between which lie the necessary & mundane transit networks, my research will focus on the transit modes themselves that enable not only the world city's very existence, but my own ability to travel between and navigate within them.

BLOG. i will use this blog as a way to record my observations, both written and graphic, and as a venue for interaction with friends, family, colleagues, and anyone who would like to participate in and respond to the as-yet-unknown-of-what-i-may-discover over the next near-year. the blog is not solely for academic musings, but also for those more whimsical and/or messy reflections and encounters i anticipate having along the way. so, please see it as virtual dinner party, conversation, great dessert, and all.
